The action of the Congress and of the Assembly is very much complementary (13.05.2011)
“The action of the Congress and of the Assembly is very much complementary,” said PACE President Mevlüt Çavusoglu, addressing the Bureau of the Congress today in Antalya. “The challenges our societies have to face today are complex in their nature and require a comprehensive and joint response at national, regional and local level”, he added.
Mr Çavusoglu highlighted a number of issues of common interest including election observation and the fight against extremism, racism and xenophobia. He stressed the importance of cross-border co-operation for regional socio-economic stability and to help unite neighbouring populations and encourage intercultural learning.
“The strengthening of democracy at local and regional level in particular, is one of the key priorities of Ukraine’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers,” he recalled.
